Bard College is the owner of two small dams along the Saw Kill, and is investigating the possibility of converting those dams to productive use for low impact hydropower production. Interested in learning more? Read the most recent blog posts and updates here.

There are over 6000 dams in New York State of various sizes and histories. Collectively they represent a significant potential for alternative power generation along with solar, wind, and geothermal.
Bard College, in cooperation with stakeholders from the Saw Kill Watershed Community, the Town of Red Hook, Dutchess County, along with other State and Federal representatives embarked on a journey to explore and better understand the issues involved in implementing small hydro power projects in New York State.
